Friday May 11 ... 13 months

I forgot to do a 13 month picture. Guess that series is done.

011

Quicky post: here's what he can do now

  • Run
  • Sign "More" and "All Done", usually at the right times.
  • Nod "Yes". Haven't figured out "No" yet.
  • Follow simple commands like "Bring me that thing" or "Where's dada?"
  • Throws things.
  • Plays his own little games (see video).
  • Eat like it's his last meal. Always More More More.
  • Climb onto the stool to look out the window.
  • Move something over to the couch and use it as a stool to climb up.
  • He reads books ... or at least brings them over and makes us read them
  • He "hides" in the closet. He'll go in and shut the shirts around him, or yell until we shut the door on him.

Monday May 21 ... Baby's first vacation

This weekend we headed to Indianapolis for Polly and Cory's Wedding. This was baby's first flight and first wedding. We also had a lot of other firsts!

Thursday morning we headed to the airport. It's tricky when you don't have a car and when your kid is in a carseat. We called a car and put his carseat in, put him in, drove the 10 minutes to the airport, and got everyone out again. Curb-side check-in is amazing, BTW, since by the time we got in the building he had no luggage.

Also, babywearing is awesome, especially in an airport. I had him in a ring-sling and the diaper bag on my back. It was great because I could put him in and out quickly and he could see everything.

We had some breakfast in the terminal and found our gate.

We found another little girl at our gate too. We found an empty gate and let them run around and knock themselves out.

He spent so much energy running around that he fell asleep the moment we got on the plane.

He slept for about half the flight, and the spent the rest of the time interested in the window shade and the light buttons. The best part was when people passed us exiting the plane and said "Oh, I didn't even know there was a baby on board".

Oh, and baby still hates the car. He yelled the entire ride from the airport to the hotel.

Though he stopped yelling when we stopped for lunch at Steak N Shake.

On Friday we went to the Indianapolis Children's Museum, which was AWESOME! They ahve an under 5 area full of safe things to touch, and even an under 2 area with soft things to fall on.

We all especially liked the food court.

After we got to the hotel and took a nap, we went down to the pool for baby's first swim!

That night we stayed up drinkin with the bride!

On Saturday we went for our traditional Notre Dame pancake breakfast!

Perfect Toddler-Sized pancakes!

We got back, took another nap, and got all dressed up!

Mom and baby missed most of the actual wedding ceremony since baby decided that would be the good time to get bored and fussy (also, it was hard to nurse in that dress). So we hung out in the hall and outside.

We went back to the hotel for cocktails and pretty pictures!

Then it was time for dinner!

The tiniest jar of ketchup ever.

All he wanted was the grown up dinner.

How babywearers party.

He wasn't going to sleep so Chris took him outside. Eventually I took him up to the room, and this is how he slept all night!

Sunday morning we made our way back to the airport where, again, he was so excited about the airport he ran around until he fell asleep. While he was a little more fussy on the plane ride home, the shade and the overhead lights kept him very entertained.

He was so happy to be home with his puppy and his toys.

Things I'll forget ... Spicy Food

The other night we made Taco Soup, which is a lot like chili. It was a little spicier than I would have liked, especially because the baby eats everything we do now. But I watered his down and he seemed to be fine with it.

Then all of a sudden.

015

The spicy got him. So I tried to take it away, and he got even more upset. And he just kept eating.

So back and forth.

He ate the whole thing.

Tuesday, May 8 ... Big Sister, Little Brother

Today the dog had to go to the vet to get her teeth cleaned. This is a way bigger deal for dogs than for people, because they have to put them under general anestisia. So we had to do blood work to make sure she could handle it, an physical to make sure she was healthy, blah blah.
So today I took BOTH kids to the vet. I borrowed a friend's car, wrestled with the car seat, and both kids out the door almost on time. Rowan had a good time running around the vet's office, playing with pamphlets and poking at all the posters for doggy diet treats.

When it was time for Gipper to go in and the nurse picked her up, however, the baby looked VERY concerned (more concerned than usual, which is saying something). I picked him up and had him say bye-bye to the puppy, explaining that she was getting her teethe cleaned and that Rowan and Daddy were going to pick her up this afternoon. I brought the baby in for a kiss, and the dog leaned in and put her paw up on Rowan's shoulder. Sort of like, "Don't worry about me. I can handle this." Such a good big sister.

Tuesday, May 1 ... How to wear out a 1 year old.

This semester I've been picking up the baby on Tuesdays while Daddy is at class. Sometimes we go to the park, sometimes we go home and hang out. Today we went shopping! We have a wedding in a few weeks, and we all need new outfits! Daddy got a gray suit and a purple shirt and tie, so we needed to get something fancy for the baby.

Burlington Coat Factory I've seen simple suits for cheap, but they didn't have his size. But Sears did!

So while we were at Sears, I figured I'd try to wear out the kid as much as possible.

And it worked. He as asleep within 90s seconds of getting home.
